BUCKHEAD. With its lazy, easy ambience, you'll want to loll about this wonderful bungalow restaurant, preferably on its enviable patio, and enjoy great Provencal-styled cuisine. Begin with classic, white wine-steamed mussels or vodka-cured salmon before sampling the veal porter house with wild rice or, perhaps, thyme-roasted free range chicken with fingerling potatoes. Live jazz enlivens the place on Thursdays and Fridays; Latin tunes on Monday. Service can be slow at times, so plan accordingly. Reasonably priced.

MIDTOWN. This sunny, airy restaurant, enlivened by rhythmic French pop, occupies a charming, subtly lit cottage. A boon to local residents, it's a great neighborhood presence, perfect for a delightful meal and a glass of good wine. The menu, although traditionally French, gets an occasional kick, courtesy of the creative kitchen. Possible dishes you'll find include sauteed scallops with mushroom risotto, bistro-style hanger steak with fries, rack of lamb, and mussels marinière. The outdoor patio is a wonderful, warm-weather destination.

MIDTOWN. The neighborhood surrounding Ansley Park doesn't want for lack of charm, and folks there surely thank their lucky stars that one of their neighbors just happens to be this romantic French number. Located in an old, restored home, Atmosphère serves up a casual, understated attitude befitting its bistro-inspired inspired setting. The cuisine, it must be noted offers well-conceived takes on French classics like steamed mussels mariniere, roasted duck confit with dauphinois gratin, and raviolis niçoise with beef stew and red wine reduction. NB Live music on Thursday nights.

BUCKHEAD. A distinctly Continental atmosphere pervades at this elegant hotel restaurant, American sibling of the highly regarded Parisian of the same name. The space's design takes its cues from the French brasserie tradition ­ black and white tiled floor, rich velvet curtains, ornate chandeliers and tables covered in crisp white linens. Seating on the outdoor terrace is a romantic alternative when the weather is pleasant, but if you really want to leave a lasting impression on that somebody special, the exclusive chef's table is the best way to enjoy your mussels, veal with foie gras ravioli, and chocolate parfait.

PONCEY-HIGHLAND. Babette's is a special place for both dinner and Sunday brunch. Occupying a converted bungalow in the historic Highlands area, the dining room is pure Country French, with small, intimate spaces and romantic decorative touches. The brunch menu offers many breakfast and lunch favorites, including eggs benedict, fresh berry pancakes, smoked trout and salmon salad, and French toast with brioche. You'll also find excellent desserts and an extensive wine list at the relaxed, authentically European establishment.
